Who is Tony Robbins?

He was born Anthony J. Mahavoric in North Hollywood, California, on 29 February 1960, which gives him a birthday once every four years. He published Unlimited Power in 1986, at twenty six, and Awaken the Giant Within in 1991, and founded the Anthony Robbins Foundation in the same year to help young people, homeless people, hungry people, elderly people and imprisoned people.
Not all of it went smoothly and the record says so. In May 1995 Robbins Research International settled with the Federal Trade Commission over alleged violations of the agency's Franchise Rule. In 2000 Wade Cook sued him for allegedly using copyrighted terms from Cook's book in his seminars. In July 2012 a newspaper reported that several people had been burned and hospitalised at a fire-walking event on 19 July that year, and in June 2016 it was reported that dozens were burned and required medical attention after attempting to walk on hot coals at an event in Dallas.
The audience stayed. NBC launched a reality series with him in July 2010, the OWN Network picked it up for another season in March 2012, and he began co-hosting a programme on that network in April 2012. A 2014 event of his was the basis for the documentary Tony Robbins: I Am Not Your Guru, which premiered at South by Southwest in March 2016 and was released on 15 July 2016. He published Money: Master the Game in 2014 and donated its profits, with a further personal donation, to provide meals through Feeding America. He joined an investor group in 2014 to launch a Los Angeles football club, which entered competition in 2018, bought the esports organisation Team Liquid with two other sports owners in 2016, and opened a hotel brand in 2024.
