Who is Taylor Tomlinson?

She was born in California and raised in Temecula in a devout Christian household with three younger siblings, and that upbringing is the material she has worked with ever since. Her mother died of cancer in August 2002, when she was eight. At sixteen her father signed them both up for a stand-up class, which is how she started: church basements, school halls and coffee shops. At nineteen she decided it would be the career, and organised her education around it, moving to a community college nearer the clubs and then leaving university altogether.
She was a top-ten finalist on Last Comic Standing in 2015 and named one of Variety's ten comics to watch in 2018. A sitcom she developed for a network in 2017 was never picked up for a pilot. She opened for Conan O'Brien at the end of 2018, and her first Netflix special, Quarter-Life Crisis, came out in March 2020, into a year when nobody could go to a club. Look At You followed in March 2022, and in it she spoke about being diagnosed with bipolar disorder. She has talked openly in her material about her mental health for years, which she has said is the thing she admired in the comedians she grew up on.
In 2023 she was the only woman in the ten highest-grossing comedy tours, and she played more shows than anybody else on the list: 132 of them, 296,000 tickets and over 17.5 million dollars. She made her Radio City Music Hall debut in September of that year. In January 2024 she took over a late-night show on CBS, on the condition that she record only three days a week so she could still play stand-up rooms at weekends. When the choice came she chose the stand-up: she left the show in June 2025, and her fourth special, Prodigal Daughter, went out on Netflix in February 2026.
