Who is Theo Von?

He was born in Covington, Louisiana, the son of a Nicaraguan-born father who was sixty seven when he was born. He was legally emancipated at fourteen, and his father died of cancer in 1996, when he was sixteen. He grew up in circumstances he has described as low income, and has said most of his frame of reference came from poor people.

At nineteen he auditioned at an open casting call in a bar and was put on MTV Road Rules in 2000. Four seasons of The Challenge followed: runner up in 2002, then the winner of the two seasons after it. At twenty three he moved to Los Angeles to perform stand-up, and that is where the line dips rather than climbs. Talent agents saw a former reality contestant and were reluctant to book him as a comedian. He has said it took ten years to shake that image.

He kept going through the whole of it. He won the online companion competition to Last Comic Standing in 2006 and the Comedy Central show Reality Bites Back in 2008, took his undergraduate degree in urban planning in 2011, and started his first podcast in April of the same year. No Offense went out on Netflix in 2016 and This Past Weekend began the same year. Regular People followed in 2021. By 2024 the podcast was the fourth biggest in the world on Spotify, and in July 2025 he was named to Time magazine's first TIME100 Creators list.
