Who is Molly Burke?
They told her at four. She filmed all of it anyway.
She was diagnosed at four with retinitis pigmentosa, a condition that causes loss of vision. That is an unusual thing to know about yourself as a child: not that you cannot see, but that one day you will not. She lost most of her sight at fourteen.
She became a spokesperson for Foundation Fighting Blindness Canada, and then did something that had not really been done at scale. She started filming her own life. Not a campaign about blindness, her life: getting ready, fashion, makeup advice, vlogs of ordinary days, and the practical reality of doing all of it without sight.
The guide dogs are part of it and she introduces them by name. Gypsy, Bennix and Gallop came before Elton John, who works with her now, alongside a cat called Lavender. Millions of people who had never knowingly met a blind person have watched a blind woman do her own eyeliner and explain how.
The recognition followed. Breakout YouTuber at the Shorty Awards in 2018 and a Lifestyle award there in 2019, the same year she released an audiobook on Audible called It is Not What It Looks Like. An Allure A-Lister in 2022, the year she was interviewed on The Daily Show. Forbes 30 Under 30 in 2024.
In 2025 she published her second book, Unseen: How I Lost My Vision but Found My Voice. It became a USA Today bestseller and reached number one on the Amazon bestseller list. In 2026 she received the Helen Keller Achievement Award. She lives in Los Angeles and works as an author, a creator, a speaker, a consultant, a model and an advocate.
