Who is Eddie Goh?

He built it out of empty ground.

He was a labourer before he was a businessman. The shop's own pages date Go Sports to 1985 and describe it as the pioneer skate shop in Singapore, and a press account says he opened it in 1988 at block 6C Margaret Drive, where the rent was cheap. Those two dates do not agree, and this page does not pick between them.

Behind the shopfront was an unused void deck, a barren plot about half the size of a basketball court, of the sort every Singapore housing estate has and nobody uses. He turned it into a mini skate park. It cost a landlord nothing and it was not anybody's job, and from the early 1990s it became the place Singapore skateboarding actually happened, for more than twenty years.

Queenstown was redeveloped and the estate came down with it. Go Sports at Margaret Drive closed on Wednesday 16 February 2011, and the ground outside went with it. He moved the shop to Redhill Road and it now trades at Orchard Gateway on Orchard Road. The public record of him effectively stops there, which is why this line runs flat from 2011 to today: it is not that nothing happened, it is that nobody wrote it down.
