Who is Dhar Mann?

His parents emigrated from India to the United States, and the family owned a taxi company in Oakland and had been in property since 1980, with more than a hundred and thirty holdings. He grew up in a one bedroom apartment in the Bay Area shared with three other families. He has said that because his parents were focused on running the company, rather than give him their time, they gave him money to do things.
At nineteen he started a real estate company, and over the following decade founded several other ventures, in luxury car rental and in mortgage refinancing, most of which failed. In January 2010 he and a former stockbroker founded a retailer selling hydroponics equipment for growing cannabis, with a plan to franchise into eight other states. In early 2011 the store closed. His former partner sued over unpaid debts and accused him in a magazine interview of running a scheme. A spokesman said the accusation was retaliation for a decision to downsize the partnership, and he successfully countersued for a cash settlement and stock.
In 2012 he was charged with thirteen felony counts of fraud over a city beautification programme and his property company, for conduct alleged in 2008 and 2009. Prosecutors reduced the charges to five counts in August 2013, and later that year he pled no contest to all five. He was sentenced to five years of probation and ordered to pay a ten thousand dollar fine and restitution. He told a newspaper in 2021 that the conviction had since been expunged. He was twenty nine when he entered the plea.
In 2018 he founded a studio and started publishing videos. The first of them were motivational, and the output then moved to short scripted morality plays: small dramas in which somebody behaves badly, is shown the cost of it, and the story turns. A newspaper profile compared them to after school specials and educational short films from the 1950s, and noted the titles are openly written for the click and the philosophy is absolute rather than subtle. Another magazine called them feel good videos meant to encourage people to be decent to one another.
Whatever the critics think, a very large number of people watch them. The studio had more than eleven billion views by 2023. He signed with a talent agency in 2021 and launched an app, signed with a production company in 2024, and by 2025 was operating out of a hundred and twenty five thousand square foot facility in Burbank with about two hundred staff, working with around two thousand actors a year on a thirty day production schedule with eight crews filming at once. In 2025 and 2026 the studio signed deals to make original programming for a television platform, a broadcaster and a major studio.
