Who is Blaine Anderson?
The job went, and she built the odd one instead.
She grew up in Tucson, Arizona, an only child who loved animals and who joined the city's first girls' high school lacrosse team. She was working as a travel agent when the pandemic arrived, which is about the worst place to be standing when the world stops moving, and the job went with it.
What she built instead is a trade most people do not take seriously: coaching men on how to date. The programme runs five weeks and is organised around five words she chose, empathising, embracing, embodying, engaging and executing, covering profiles, conversation, texting and the rest of it. The first year brought twenty two thousand dollars. The second brought four hundred and ninety one thousand. The third brought over a million, and the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal and Forbes had all written about her by then.
On 13 October 2023 she took it onto Shark Tank, asking a hundred thousand dollars for two percent of the business. Mark Cuban said no to that and yes to ten percent, and she agreed on air. Follow-up reporting in March 2024 found no evidence that the deal had closed, which is a common ending that the programme rarely shows. The business kept going anyway. By 2025 she had coached thousands of men, and the company was valued at around one and a half million dollars.
