Who is Cleo Abram?
She left the newsroom to be optimistic on purpose.
She was born and raised in Washington, finished school in 2011 and went to Columbia University, where she founded the university's TEDx conference and sat on the student council. She graduated in 2015 with a degree in political science, which is not a technology degree, and she has never pretended otherwise. She also founded a newsletter built around examining the arguments on both sides of a current issue, which is a useful habit for somebody who would later explain difficult things for a living.
She joined a newsroom as a video producer, making films about technology, and hosted a studio series that was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2020. That is a good job with a good title, and in January 2022 she left it to start a channel of her own.
The channel is called Huge if True, and the name is the argument. Most technology coverage is either advertising or alarm, and hers is neither: it is careful, curious and deliberately hopeful, on the grounds that somebody should explain what might actually go right. By June 2026 it had more than eight million subscribers. In 2025 an electric motor racing series commissioned her to make documentaries about the science behind the competition, and she signed with a major talent agency the same year.
