Who is Aurora?
A classmate shared them, and she never got them back.
She was born in Stavanger, the youngest of three daughters of a midwife. She started writing songs and learning to dance at six, trained on the piano, and later learned percussion and production as well, which is what makes her a producer rather than only a singer. The songs were private. What changed that is the single strangest fact on this line: a classmate posted her music online without her knowledge, and that is how anybody outside her family heard it.
She signed with three labels in 2014, at eighteen, and released her debut extended play in 2015. Its lead single, Runaway, did reasonably well and then, years later, went round the world when it spread on a short video platform, which is a very unusual way for a song to find its audience: slowly, and long after everybody had stopped looking. Her first album came out in 2016 to positive reviews, topped the Norwegian chart and sold internationally.
She followed it with a two-part concept album in 2018 and 2019, a fourth album in 2022 that gave her a first British top ten, and a fifth in 2024 that charted across Europe. In 2025 she formed an electronic project with Tom Rowlands of The Chemical Brothers and released its album the following year. She has written for films, television and video games, from an animated sequel to a live-action adaptation and several game franchises, and has collaborated with a long list of other musicians. With ten billion streams she is the most streamed female Norwegian artist there has been, has toured in more than fifty countries, and at twenty one became the youngest person given a stone on the Bergen walk of fame.
