Who is Zendaya?

She grew up in Oakland, where her mother worked at a theatre and Zendaya spent her childhood around it, dancing from a young age and acting on local stages long before a camera found her. That early stage life gave her the ground everything else stands on. When Disney cast her in Shake It Up in 2010, she became a teenage star at fourteen, known to a young audience across the country, and she could have stayed comfortably in that lane for years.
She did not. The turn in her line is the choice to leave the safe image behind and take on work that asked more of her: a supporting part in The Greatest Showman, MJ in the Spider-Man films, and then Rue in Euphoria, a young person in recovery, one of the most demanding roles on television.
