Who is Christopher Nolan?

He was born in London in 1970 and made films from boyhood on a borrowed camera. His first feature, Following, was shot at weekends over a year with friends and a cast working for nothing, on a budget of a few thousand pounds, because that was all there was. It was proof he could make a film with almost no resources, and it was enough to earn him the chance to make a second one properly.
That second film, Memento, told its story backwards and made his name, and from it the scale of the work kept growing. He rebuilt the Batman franchise with Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, treating a comic-book world with the weight of real drama, and used the freedom that earned to make original epics that studios rarely gamble on: Inception, a heist folded inside a dream, and Interstellar, a journey past the edge of the solar system, both built for the largest film formats he could find.
He has stayed loyal to shooting on film and to the shared experience of a cinema, and it kept paying off: Dunkirk drew the evacuation as three timelines at once, and Oppenheimer, in 2023, became the rare serious three-hour drama to fill theatres worldwide.
