The character arc of Alex Hormozi
Born in 1989 in the United States to an Iranian family, his father Iranian. Between then and now sit a degree from Vanderbilt, a management-consulting job left behind for a gym floor, a stretch when he was down to almost nothing, the Gym Launch turnaround that taught his system to other owners, the founding of Acquisition.com with his wife Leila, two widely read books on offers and leads, and a habit of giving the playbook away in public. The line below draws the story so far, in order.

Who is Alex Hormozi?
The gym owner who gave the playbook away.
He was born in 1989 in the United States to an Iranian family, his father an Iranian who had made a life in America. He studied at Vanderbilt and took the kind of first job that looks like the safe answer, a role in management consulting. Within a couple of years he walked away from it to do something far less certain: open a gym, sleep on the floor of it, and learn how to fill it with paying members. The safe line was the one he chose to leave.
The line does not run straight up. He built a small chain of gyms, and then a stretch arrived when the money was almost gone and the whole thing could have ended there. What he did with it is the point of his arc. Rather than quit, he turned what he had learned filling his own gyms into something he could hand to other owners, and Gym Launch grew from a near-empty account into a business with a record first year. He went on to build supplement and software companies around it, and later sold a majority stake in them.
In 2020 he and his wife Leila founded Acquisition.com, a firm that buys into companies and helps them grow, its portfolio reaching well past a quarter of a billion in yearly revenue. He wrote 100M Offers and 100M Leads, plain manuals on making an offer worth buying and finding people to buy it, and he gives a great deal of that teaching away in public. His line is worth reading because the safe career was the thing he left, and the knowledge he could have kept is the thing he hands out.

The paths laid out: teach the system to owners, taken, or go back to something safe. The system he chose to teach became Gym Launch, and its first year turned a near-empty account into the business that made his name.
The Gym Launch turnaround
Milestone, and it changed everything. Rather than quit, he turned what he had learned into a system he could hand to other gym owners.

The work goes on
Everyday. Acquisition.com carries a portfolio well past a quarter of a billion in yearly revenue, and the teaching continues.
The line reaches today still building and still teaching, which is why it is drawn now rather than at the end. What it has set moving is already out in the open: the owners who used his system, the firm he and Leila built, and every person who took the free playbook and started.
In his words
Quotes by Alex Hormozi
Volume negates luck.
The only difference between where you are and where you want to be is the skills you lack.
Make people an offer so good they would feel stupid saying no.
Your turn
Every story draws a unique line.
His is more than three decades in and still being drawn. Yours is already further along than you think, and drawing it takes about three minutes.
